Technique Week is a hands-on, intensive, and exciting week of fun training focused on swimming development and advancement. On day one, each participant is evaluated and filmed above and below water for Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke, and Butterfly. In an effort to improve each swimmer's technique, the coaching staff will work closely to increase their understanding of strong hydrodynamic principles for each stroke. The swimmers can watch recordings of their swimming to help them evaluate and get a new perspective on their skills outside of normal team practice. The remaining days will build upon their abilities in an effort to increase efficiency and speed. A final video taken on the last day should document each participant's progress.
Technique Week Practice Times: Tuesday - Friday, 4 - 6 pm
Season: May 22 - May 25
Instructors: Coaches Steve Thomas & Colin Campbell
Ages: 5 - 17 (depending on ability)
Registration for technique week is by 4, 1-hour training sessions. The Devil Rays Summer League is a fun six-week swim program that offers beginners and more advanced swimmers the opportunity to participate on a swim team with weekly swim meets held at facilities around the metroplex. Participants will be taught the USA Swimming official rules and regulations during morning and afternoon training sessions. The goals of the coaches will be to improve each individuals speed and endurance ensuring each swimmer has a positive learning experience, while creating friendships and making sure each swimmer has the best summer ever.
Swimmers must evaluate at Gliders level in the LKSA program or demonstrate competency swimming 25 yards freestyle and backstroke to participate in Devil Rays. At try-outs during first week of the session, coaches will determine a swimmer's skill level and be placed in one of two skill groups.
