Dear Theater Families:
Our JPAS Stars are on a mission to give us the BEST mainstage show that we have ever experienced. This past week our kids were working on blocking, singing, and choreography. Stage blocking is when the actors are given specific direction of their placement and movement on and off the stage. Did you know that when kids learn how the show is being blocked they work on not only their listening skills but also their ability to remain engaged while executing other tasks? The whole staging process enhances their teamwork and communication skills. Blocking works two types of memory, muscle and mind.
This year we have chosen to challenge our performers by raising the choreography bar. We really want our performers to step out of their comfort zones so they can realize that they have talent and skill sets that they didn’t know they had. Each rehearsal we teach theater and life skills. It’s incredible to watch our JPAS stars grow week by week. Rehearsals are a process. Many emotions go into each rehearsal (elation, frustration, determination, inspiration, motivation, etc.). This is all part of the creative arts resulting in theater magic and a more confident child than the one that walked through our doors during auditions. Just wait till after the performance. The sense of pride and accomplishment that our performers will feel will be evident by their beaming smiles on their faces.
Rehearsal - Sunday February 21
Both casts will meet in Zale Auditorium at 1:30. Pick-up will be at 5:30. Please remind our performers to bring their scripts and a pencil.
Things to Work on With Your Budding Actors
Emotion: during dinner or the car ride home to and from school, have your child make emotional faces i.e. scared, happy, shocked, angry, sad
Chroegraphy: please have your kids practice their choreography while singing their songs. We are at the point where we need them to start putting it all together and this will take time and PRACTICE!
