Dear Theater Families,
The Magic is happening folks!
On The Road To Putting It Together
One of life's lessons is patience and hard work. We try to instill both within JPAS kids. We are at the half way mark and that means we are still in the thick of learning, practicing, processing, and repeating that process again and again. A lot of time is spent going over the nitty gritty i.e. how to exit, how to enter, walking downstage, moving upstage, cues, and blocking. The most important thing for our JPAS actors to do is walk through it all at home several times a week. As mentioned in last week’s blog, our kids need to work their muscle memory by going over their lines/songs with the movement they've been taught. Ask your kids to show you what they've worked on. It may feel awkward at first but after they do it a couple of times you will watch their comfort and performance levels grow right in front of your eyes; it's amazing.
Read Over Your Blocking
One more thing, our actors need to read over their stage cues. Every rehearsal our directors give them notes on how they are moving on and off stage. Each actor should be writing their “notes” into their personal script after each rehearsal. Then, reviewing these a couple times a week will make them more confident in rehearsal and allow the directors to move through scenes at a faster pace 😄. A great exercise is to ask your kids to tell you what happens in each scene and talk through the actions taking place.

Playbill Ads - Last Chance "$25 Shout Outs"
If you haven’t purchased an ad yet, this is your chance. We have one page left in our playbill to fill so we are offering $25 shout out ads. This is 20 - 30 words in addition to your child’s name. It will appear in sentence(s) form with no image but the page will be decorated. So for example: Alise (Robinson), we are so very proud of you. We love you to the moon and back, Love and Hugs, Mom and Dad
Marketing Mamas Volunteers (Dads you are invited too!)
This Sunday right after drop off at 1:30, please join me for a 15-minute marketing meeting for parents that want to help us spread the word about our performances. The meeting will take place in the Big D room. I have several marketing pieces to hand out – yard signs, posters, flyers etc. To empower our actors, we created a “marketing package” for them too. It includes 10 small flyers that they can give to their friends at school, teachers, etc. Ask them about it and encourage them to hand them out at school or at other activities they are involved with. We find that word of mouth marketing is most effective! With that said, under separate cover we will be sending out a “social media” marketing package for you next week via email. It will include several easy to use images/email marketing campaigns that you can use digitally.
Giving Back - JPAS Partners with Educational First Steps
This year JPAS is giving away 100 free tickets to match the first 100 ticket bought and we couldn’t be more excited to have partnered with Educational First Steps. The mission of Educational First Steps is to increase the quality and availability of early childhood education for disadvantaged children in North Texas. The earliest years of life go by quickly, but their impact lasts forever. Educational First Steps is a nonprofit organization that shows caregivers of at-risk children how to create high-quality early learning environments. We equip the people who care for children in poverty – in preschools, daycare centers and homes – with proven tools and techniques that transform care-giving into teaching. More impactful early learning experiences result in more children prepared for school and life success. As a result of this partnership, 100 disadvantaged children in North Texas will be able to attend Seussical, which might very well be their first theater experience! Want to learn more about Educational First Steps? Check out this YouTube video.

Pack a snack. No more vending machine.
Unfortunately due to time, we can’t offer performers to use the vending machine for snacks. It takes way too long. Please pack a healthy snack for rehearsals and a water bottle.
