Dear Theater Families,
This upcoming rehearsal will mark “go time” for our actors. Starting at this week’s rehearsal they will be going from the top of the show and running through the entire show (or as far as they can work through for four hours). In order for this to happen effectively our kids will have to remain focused and engaged. They will be wiped out afterwards because they will be using tons of mental energy and physical stamina to stay on point and take in all of the direction being given. SEUSSICAL is a great show but it’s also very complex. There are many exits and entries, lots of movement, and tons of musical numbers. Our actors will find this time exciting and perhaps a bit frustrating because it’s the time where we bring all of the pieces/numbers together that they’ve been working on for the past month and this will begin giving them the opportunity to string them all together to make THE SHOW! Therefore, restorative care for every actor is very important. Eating healthy, getting enough sleep, and review of their show numbers/choreography is key! Everyone is going to be stepping up their "show" game this week so get ready.

Why Is Our Seuss Experience is Different
It’s going to be an interactive, fantastical experience for the whole family to enjoy. Tell you more? Ok!
- We have talented, hard-working, committed, dedicated actors that are going to SHINE! Can’t wait.
- We are living, one of our Jewish values. An important Jewish value is Tzedakah (righteousness) a charitable giving. In Judaism, tzedakah means much more than charity; it embraces a larger principle of doing good to ensure the needs of others are met. At JPAS, we are giving back to the community by providing Educational First Steps, a non-profit organization that works with underprivileged children, with 100 free tickets for their families who would otherwise not be able to see our show, let alone go to the theater.
- We added an interactive element to this performance, prop bags, so our audience can actually be part of the show!
- We have ice cream, refreshments, and raffles!
- And, last but certainly not least, our partnership with Half Price Books brings it all home from a literary standpoint. Dr. Seuss is an icon and by having his books for sale while we perform his work is a way to encourage our children who attend the performance to read - icing on the cake!
Junior Cast Volunteers
Thank you so much - we only a few spots left! If you haven’t signed up, please do so today. For those that signed up for Food Committee and Dressing Rooms, I will send out an email early next week to each group with details. Click here to sign up.
Senior Cast Volunteers
Try something new, go for it! Not to mention we need you. We have several spots left for volunteers. This year, we even eliminated backstage helpers from the list to minimize participation. The positions on the list must be filled to ensure the kids have a successful performance and I know you want that as much as we/they do. If you haven’t done this before, it is actually a great experience! See what happens behind the scenes. Click here to sign up. Thank you so much in advance! If my food committee and dressing room helper spots are filled by early next week, my intention is to send out an email with the details. However, I need more people to help in the dressing rooms before I can do that.
I sent emails to both casts this week with specific time slots for each actor. The Junior Cast will be fitted next Sunday, March 20 and the Senior Cast will be fitted the following Sunday, March 27. Please refer to the email I sent earlier this week as reference to the specific times your actor needs to arrive at the JCC on those dates.
Any parents that emailed me with a conflict will come this weekend to our Alternate Fitting, as we have been in communication with the specific time slots. If you have any questions, or are unsure of when you are to come, please let me know ASAP. This weekend is the only alternate day on the schedule. We have three back-to-back Spring breaks this year and accommodating 73 families' travel schedules has been challenging. BUT, you are all so amazing with your flexibility and quick replies that as a team, we were able to get it sorted out! Well done and thank you!
Your complimentary ticket will be waiting for you at the front desk starting this Sunday. Just give them your name and they will provide you with a ticket. For those of you who sent in your bios early, as per the contest we had, you will be picking up that additional ticket as well.
PR, Social Media Kits, & More!
If you want posters to hang around town, at schools etc...I have some for you. I will be outside Zale Auditorium at drop-off with them. Earlier in the week, I sent our social media PR kit. I see that some of you have begun to use it on Facebook and that is awesome! If everyone (there are 73 of you) posted about our upcoming performances, do you know how many people we could reach...? A LOT! So ready, set, go!
Purchase Your Tickets - Buy Early and Save!
The process is super easy. Click the “Purchase Tickets” button and purchase! Remember each family will receive 1 complimentary ticket.
Pack a snack. No more vending machine.
Unfortunately due to time, we can’t offer performers to use the vending machine for snacks. It takes way too long. Please pack a healthy snack for rehearsals and a water bottle.
Performing Arts Camps At the J – Limited Space! Register Early to Save a Spot.
Not sure what you are doing this summer but if you haven’t attended one of our performing camps yet, they are top-notch awesome. JPAS is working on developing a new pre-camp in partnership with our Gymnastics department called Camp Cirque for the week of June 6 - 10. It’s going to be amazing and that too will have limited spots. Here is a sneak peak at the description, so if you are interested, email me! Ages are entering grade 3 - 9.
At Camp Cirque, campers will combine the art of gymnastics, the circus, and the performing arts all in one extraordinary, amazing experience! Campers will spend each morning learning and sharpening their new-found skills i.e. tumbling, juggling, silks, trampolining, and more. In the afternoon campers will rehearse in a performance troupe atmosphere as they prepare for their final performance. This unique one-week camp will be capped off with a performance where parents and friends can watch our campers show off their new skills and new-found confidence! It’s physical, it’s theatrical, and it's fun!
