Written by David R. Brooks and Zev Brooks
Charlie is a washed-up ex-major league baseball player, sentenced to mandatory community service for a drunken driving conviction. An upstart team of yeshiva students have the chutzpah to join the Collegiate Baseball League and are desperately in need of a coach (Is this a match made in heaven?). As these unlikely partners join together in their crazily ambitious quest to win the championship, the lines between teacher and pupils become blurred. Charlie learns what it takes to be a mensch and in the process finds redemption. This movie is a Jewish smorgasboard with something (including romance and a wonderful soundtrack) for the entire family to enjoy. Co-stars Don Most (Happy Days)

In November, 2008, Israeli Director Erez Laufer and his father, Nahum, travel to Mumbai, India, where Nahum spent his childhood after his family fled the Nazis during the War. By cruel coincidence, they find themselves in the midst of a terrorist attack, in which the Chabad House is tragically one of the main targets. A MATTER OF SIZE
Comedy / Israel / Hebrew with English Subtitles /
90 minutes / 2009
In this hilarious yet tender film, we are introduced to Herzl, a shy 340-pound man living with his mother. Fired from his job because of his physical appearance, and asked to leave the Israeli equivalent of Weight-Watchers because he adds, rather than sheds, pounds, Herzl takes a job as a dishwasher in a Japanese restaurant. There, he discovers the one activity where girth is a virtue and fat guys can be rock stars sumo wrestling! He and three similarly overweight friends go through a rigorous training program and follow their path from body shame to body celebration and from loneliness to love. This is undoubtedly a film for the whole family to enjoy. Received three Israeli Film Academy Awards (including Best Actress) and ten nominations (2009).

(Unter Bauern: Retter in der Nacht)
DALLAS PREMIERE
Drama / German with English subtitles /
100 minutes / 2009
Based on the true narrative of Marga Spiegel published in 1965.
It is 1943 and the Spiegel family Menne, Marga, and daughter Karin, desperately seek refuge from deportation to the extermination camps in the East. They turn to their gentile Westphalian farmer friends who, without reservation, offer them protection from the Nazis. Tension mounts as the families are thrust into uncomfortably close proximity with one another, always seeming to be just one short step away from discovery. This movie is a moving tribute to the courage and humanity of these farmers (immortalized at Yad Vashem) and a celebration of the bonds of friendship forged amidst the horrors of war.
