On the Move/Active Aging Adults
Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays | 9:15 - 10:20 am
Get on the move with our total body low impact group exercise class. This class is especially designed for active aging adults that are looking to improve cardiovascular fitness, make a few strength gains, and fine tune your balance.
Mondays | 1:15 pm
One of the most popular performance styles because it is flexible, creative, and doesn't require actors to memorize lines. Participants will learn to develop characters, explore vocal techniques, learn to read more expressively, blocking and bring a show to performance. If you enjoy acting, comedy, drama, and laughter join this class.
JCC Sewing and Knitting Club
Mondays | 9:30 am
Our JCC Sewing and Knitting Club volunteer group of special women who give their time and energy stuffing dolls and sewing them up for young children who have cancer; these dolls go to Parkland Hospital. For newborn babies, volunteers knit baby caps and booties. Volunteers are welcome. We accept donations of fabrics, stuffing and yarn.
Each week we have guest speakers, often local Jewish educators, for a presentation and interactive discussion.
Wednesdays | 1 - 2 pm
Director Sharon Balaban leads this group of people who love to sing and perform. The chorus performs at the J and local retirement communities, and welcomes new voices! No memorization required. Contact the Senior Department at 214-239-7115 for further details.
Thursdays | 1 pm
Join us to learn some fun line dances or just come for the great exercise. You never need a partner, Plus you get the health benefits of working out with realizing you are actually exercising. Dancing has been found to be the only regular physical activity associated with a significant drop in the incidence of dementia. Other Studies have shown Line Dancing in particular to be a great help in areas of memory, balance, cardiovascular, and vertigo.
Second and Last Wednesday | 10 am
Often described as meditation in motion, tai chi promotes serenity through gentle, flowing movements.
First, Third, and Fourth Thursday | 9:30 am
Chair Pilates promotes mobility and flexibility in the body. The exercises focus on spinal articulation, stretch, and strength.
Third Tuesday | 11 am
Gently use and move all joints, muscles and connective tissue during the class.
Chair Core Ball
First Wednesday | 10:30 am
Strengthens your core and assists with coordination.
Thursdays | 10 am - 12 pm
Nancy Johnson teaches technique and a variety of medium
