The Stage Is Set: At The J, Youth Performing Arts Matter More Than Ever
Dear J Family,
There is a moment every parent knows when their child steps onto a stage for the first time, takes a breath, and finds their voice. Confidence blooms. A young person discovers they are capable of more than they ever imagined. That transformative moment is at the heart of our J Performing Arts Space (JPAS), and it is why I want to share with you what makes this program so special to our community.
Theater as a Vehicle for Becoming
JPAS is so much more than putting on a performance. We use the arts as a vehicle to help young people discover who they are and who they want to become. Children engaged in the performing arts develop stronger communication skills, resilience, and the ability to collaborate and take creative risks, skills that serve them not just on the stage but also in college, in careers, and throughout life.
At the heart of everything we do is a simple idea: every young person deserves to feel that they belong and that they matter. When young people feel that sense of belonging, something powerful happens: confidence grows, voices get stronger, and lifelong friendships form. In a time of growing concern about youth mental health, connection and belonging matter more than ever. Spaces like JPAS make a real difference.
What Makes JPAS Exceptional
Under the inspired leadership of Artistic Director Alise Robinson, JPAS has built a program that stands apart in the Dallas area. Serving children and teens ages 3–18, our secret sauce is threefold.
First, our mindfulness-based approach is at the center of everything. Before students learn to project to the back of the theater, they learn to connect with their inner voice. We believe inner strength is the foundation of every great performance and every great life.
Second, we intentionally build community. We are not simply a program families enroll in; we are a theater family. Families and children return year after year because of the relationships they build here. We celebrate one another, support one another, and workthrough life together. Our team is genuinely active in our children's lives, supporting parents in any way we can as they grow and navigate the world. Every experience we create is personal and intentional, built on the understanding that relationships are at the heart of both a meaningful childhood and a meaningful life.
Third, our staff spanning Broadway to the best of DFW are not only among the finest in the industry; they are trained, dedicated, and personally committed to each actor’s artistic growth and well-being. That dual commitment to craft and to the whole child is essential to what JPAS is, and it is another thing that sets us apart.
Rooted in Community, Grounded in Values
JPAS carries forward a proud Jewish tradition of storytelling and creativity. Every child is welcomed, regardless of experience or background, in an environment where kavod (dignity), kehillah (community), and tikkun olam (repairing the world) are lived rather than merely spoken about.
Join Our Family
Whether your child is three years old and curious about movement, or a teenager with dreams of the professional stage, there is a place for them here and a community waiting to welcome them. With newly expanded class and workshop offerings, there has never been a better time to get involved. And if you’d like to support JPAS, know that every philanthropic investment, whether it's for costumes or paint for a set, directly supports the growth of a Dallas child.
The stage is set. The spotlight is ready. And our children are stepping into their light.
