Willy Wonka Jr: Week 7
Passion, Dedication, and Commitment!
Everyone is going to be stepping up their “show” game the next few weeks, so get ready – very exciting!
By now, both casts should be off-book and all extra lines should be memorized – way to go! We made it here because of everyone’s hard work. Our directors are working with our actors to find the intention and motivations behind what their characters are saying and doing. It is important for the actors to find the intention behind their words and actions on stage. By doing so, our actors will perform with conviction and purpose when they “tell” the story to the audience. It’s amazing to see it all come together!
PLEASE encourage your actors to use the resource library where they can find all the choreography videos and songs. These next few weeks will be challenging and thrilling. Again, actors will continue working on putting the show together from top to bottom; so lots of energy will be needed.
Please continue to encourage them to learn and practice their lines, choreography, and blocking. Self-care is extremely important as we move into this last phase in the creative process. Sleep, rest, eating well, and meditation are all tools we hope they use to find their inner balance and calm during these upcoming weeks! Theater transforms children in so many ways. I hope all of you are seeing the positive impact it is making in your actor’s life. We sure do!

It is important that our actors don’t miss rehearsal. We are at a critical point in the show process where everyone’s participation is needed. Remember: acting is a team sport. Happy practicing!

Additional Rehearsal
As we get ever closer to our tech week, now more than ever is it important for us to get as much rehearsal time in as possible. Our Golden Ticket cast had a very productive extra rehearsal last night, our Pure Imagination cast will be having an extra rehearsal for several actors on March 5 from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm. I sent an email regarding which actors need to attend. Please be sure to respond. Thanks.
Golden Ticket Highlights
- This week our meditation was all about envisioning the show and how we can take ownership of our performances.
- Our Award of the Day went to Sarah for showing up to dance rehearsals ready to go and willing to accept changes and direction!
- We finished blocking the entire show with our Act 2 Finale Number!
- Our actors started their stumble through from Act 1 on stage with props and set pieces.
Pure Imagination Highlights
- This week our Award of the Day went to Presley for bringing so much character to her performance and always being ready to work. She also received some great shoutouts from the cast for her friendliness!
- Our actors began running our stumble through and we managed to get through all of Act 1!
- This week we refreshed with our actors about rehearsal etiquette and backstage etiquette
- The Oompa-Loompas did amazing while polishing their choreography!
Rehearsal – Sunday, March 1st
- Everyone should arrive promptly for drop off at 1:30 pm
- Pure Imagination Cast will meet in the Zale
- Golden Ticket Cast will meet upstairs in the Mankoff room.
- Pick-up will be at 5:30 pm in the lobby.
- Please remind our performers to bring their scripts, rehearsal folder, pencil, and a highlighter to every rehearsal.
- Please pack a healthy snack and a water bottle.
- Wear clothes you can easily move in with sneakers or bring your jazz/dance shoes.
Costume Fittings
If your actor has not brought a bag in yet with all their undergarments needed for the show, they MUST do this on Sunday if they are attending rehearsal! If your actor is absent on Sunday March 1, YOU MUST please bring their undergarments on Sunday March 8 – the latest.
How to Bring Items
Please have each item labeled with your actor’s name; the BAG needs to be clearly labeled with your actor’s name and what cast they are in. This is super important so we can stay organized!
Galleria Preview Showcase
Friendly reminder, we have one more late rehearsal this Sunday, March 1st from 5:30 – 6:30 pm for those actors performing in the Galleria Showcase. Not in the showcase? We would love all our actors, to please come out and support your fellow castmates at the Galleria Wednesday, March 4th from 6-6:30 pm. We are performing at Level 1, near Banana Republic. All actors performing in the showcase must arrive at 5pm sharp, in all black, hair pulled back. I sent an email and will send a reminder email early next week as well.
Purchase Your Tickets
If you have not purchased your tickets, please do. Often as we get closer to our performances, ticket sales will pick up. I want to make sure you don’t have any issues buying them for friends and family in case we sell out. Friendly reminder, all tickets will be waiting for you at Will Call on the day of the performance. Complimentary tickets too will be waiting for you at Will Call. Each family will receive 1 complimentary ticket. If you got your actor’s bio in early, you will receive a second complimentary ticket. Please continue to use elements from our digital marketing kit on social media. Word-of-mouth is the ultimate tool – THANK YOU! We want the kids to have a packed theater and your help is appreciated.
